PFS accepts 25 participants for AFEC-X 2011

September 28th, 2011 Comments off

With the selection process now complete, 25 lucky applicants from ten countries have been informed of their places on the course. These participants can look forward to an intensive but rewarding six weeks, during which we will visit various field sites in Xishuangbanna, including Bulong Nature Research, a beautiful forest on the Myan Mar border, where the participants will conduct their independent research projects. This year we received over 100 applications, so unfortunately that means for every applicant we accepted we had to turn three away. We hope, of course, that as our funding situation becomes more secure we can offer more courses each year including in other countries.

XTBG launches Field Botany Course

September 28th, 2011 1 comment

This lastest addition to PFS repertoire of courses and workshops will be run in association with the Association for Tropical Biology & Conservation – Asia-Pacific chapter meeting at XTBG in March 2012. This workshop is targeted at non-plant taxonomy majors and aims to arm participants with an ability to identify plants in the field. For this reason the course will spent a substantial amount of time looking at plants in XTBG’s extensive ex-situ collections. instruction will also focus on sterile. Over the 3-week period the course will cover approximately 50 families and 3-4 genera per family. We are already accepting registrations.
