AFEC-X 2013 got 110 + applicants

Until yesterday, the closing data for application, we received more than 110 applicants mostly from SE Asia countries.

The evaluation is almost finished and our decision letter will be sent around soon.

Field course in digital forest monitoring technology finished

 

The joint U.S. NSF-NSFC course in Topics in Tropical Asian Forestry “Field course in digital forest monitoring technology” was held in Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in China during 28th July to 20th Aug 2013.

Chuck Cannon and David John Lohman co-chaired the course, they invited 11 researchers from Peking University, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Sun Yat-Sen University, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden to teach and help to do practical project, they aslo invited Taylor Freeman Lockwood, a famous mushroom photographer who focumsed on mushrooms for about 30 years, to record the course activities.

The course covered biodiversity, global warming, genomics etc. and 27 students and young researchers from China, US, Indonesia, etc attended. At the last stage of the course, students divided into 7 groups to do independant project and the project report symposium was held to close the course.
